Using the proper clothing can make concealing your gun while traveling easier. In most cases, you’ll need a pair of trousers that aren’t too tight to allow an inside-the-waistband holster and an untucked casual shirt.
This type of wardrobe will also require some cover garments or additional layers to help you blend in and feel comfortable.
Natural Fabrics
Natural fabrics are those that are made of fibers from plants or animals. They are categorically a better choice for the environment and your skin.
These natural fibers include animal fur and hair, plant seeds, leaves and stems, and minerals. The raw materials are scoured and bleached before being turned into yarn and woven into the final fabric that you wear.
Cotton, wool, silk, and linen are commonly used natural fabrics. They are a favorite among travelers because they are lightweight, foldable, and don’t generate “lap wrinkles” the first time you sit down.
Another popular option is rayon, which uses cellulose-based sourcing from natural resources. Bleusalt also has an interesting alternative called Pinatex, which uses pineapple leaf fibers, a byproduct of the frond-making industry, to create its soft and travel-friendly line of pants, dresses, shoes, and bags.
Prints
If you’re carrying a firearm on your body, it doesn’t hurt to wear clothes concealment clothing for travel that makes it difficult for people to see. Using prints and fabrics with a random pattern is helpful because it makes it harder for them to conform to your handgun’s shape and reveal its straps and other protrusions. Dark colors also conceal better by hiding smudges and other prints created when your gun hits against clothing.
You can even buy shirts made specifically for concealed carry with pockets and holsters built into them. These shirts are often made from stretchy materials that hug your body like a second skin and allow you to access the gun quickly when necessary.
They’re great for people carrying a handgun for protection, such as plainclothes detectives and, security guards or entrepreneurs in dangerous countries. They’re also perfect for people who want to draw their weapons without removing their jackets or unbuttoning their shirts.
Peplum/Ruffle-Hem Tops
If you’re carrying IWB (inside-the-waistband), you must wear comfortable pants and have belt loops large enough for your gun belt. Pants should be a dark color, too, to reduce the outline of a handgun against your skin. A textured fabric helps break up lines, too, and herringbone or birdseye fabrics work well.
For jackets, sports coats and blazers work better than suit jackets. They tend to have vents, are looser in the shoulders, and are less formal. And they don’t have to be buttoned up, as is often the case with suit jackets, which makes clearing and drawing your firearm much more complicated.
If you want to easily and quickly clear your cover garment, look for one with a long sleeve. The longer sleeve will help keep the gun from being exposed as you bend over or move around. A peplum or ruffle hem also works well, preventing the back of your jacket from brushing back to reveal your firearm.
