Solo Traveling: How to Make the Most of Your Time Away

Solo Traveling: How to Make the Most of Your Time Away

Traveling alone is exciting, scary, and self-developing all at the same time. It’s no wonder that while most people dream of doing it, many fail to make it happen. It’s more than worth it, though, as long as you make the most of every moment. Here’s how.

Plan Ahead

You might be an adventurous free spirit, but that doesn’t mean you should avoid planning your trips. Otherwise, you could end up stuck for somewhere to stay or spending way too much money on a single flight. Before you head off, try to plan as much of your trip as possible. Look out for Detroit airport parking deals, low-cost flights, and places to visit. By doing this, you can focus your energy on having a good time rather than booking your next hotel.

Speak the Country’s Language

No matter how many countries you plan on visiting, it’s important to learn at least some of the phrases. This shows people that you are genuinely respectful of their country and culture, and they’ll be much more accommodating because of it. Don’t worry if you get a few words wrong – most people are happy to hear the effort!

Stay in Group Accommodation

Traveling alone doesn’t mean you have to be alone the whole time. By staying in group accommodation, you don’t only save money, but you also open yourself up to new friendships. After all, the other people staying there likely have a similar mindset to you when it comes to traveling!

Pack Light

There’s no point in dragging a heavy suitcase around with you, especially if you plan on visiting many places and staying on your feet. By packing lightly, each journey will feel much easier. Try to stay in places that have washing machines on-site or a launderette nearby, as this will mean you don’t have to pack too many clothes.

Meet Up with Other Travelers

Some websites and apps help you meet up with other travelers. If you’re feeling lonely on the road, get on one of those and find like-minded people while exploring the world. By the time you get home, your circle will have grown.

Put Your Phone Down

What’s the point in discovering the beauty of the world if you’re glued to your phone? While it’s fine to take pictures on your phone and check in with friends from home now and again, make sure you don’t spend your time scrolling through social media. You could even purchase a cheap phone to carry around with your while leaving your smartphone in your hotel!

Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Traveling is the time you should get out of your comfort zone. Whether you’re afraid of heights, water, or even just meeting new people, by facing your fears and doing activities that you’re usually too frightened to do, you’ll come back from traveling an entirely new (and braver) person.

By making the most of your solo time away, you could end up having the best time of your life.
