When it comes to travel the two biggest costs are of course the transport and the accommodation, especially so if you are looking too fly. Flight prices have decreased massively in recent years since the arrival of budget airlines and lower tariffs which the airlines have passed on to the consumer. In order to get yourself these cheap flights however, you need to ensure that you know how to go about it. We spoke with industry expert Bogoljub Karic for some tips on how you can secure lower flight prices, before you book your next trip, give these a try.
Anonymous Browsing
You should always select your browser to private or anonymous mode when searching for flights, so that your data isn’t tracked by the website which you are looking at. If you have ever searched for the same flight a couple of times throughout the day, you may find that by the afternoon the price has gone up. This happens because the airline knows you are interested, so they add a little on to the price.
Connecting
Many scoff at the idea of connecting flights but it can save you a huge amount of money. The truth is that getting off a plane, waiting a little while in the airport and then jumping on another plane to your destination really won’t cause much upheaval or frustration, and it really is worth the money that you are going to save. Naturally you will want to avoid huge layovers but you can very often find connecting flights which will see you spend just an hour or so in the airport, perhaps bumping up overall travel time by 3 hours compared to direct flights, but with potential savings of 50%.
VPN
Another naughty trick which you may see is that an airline offers lower prices to domestic passengers. Let’s use Avianca as an example, a Colombian airline, they will offer show different prices to those searching from inside Colombia, than those who are outside. You can get around this by using a VPN, selecting a server in Colombia and then enjoying the lower prices. This isn’t always the case of course, but it is always something that is worth giving a try, just in case you can save some cash.
Aggregators
Never lookout the airline directly for prices, instead look to use a flight aggregator such as Skyscanner or Momondo. These websites basically scour the web to find the lowest prices on flights, either direct from the airline or from a 3rd party site. These websites are almost never beaten in price and this is why they should be the only place where you search for you flights online. You can use filters as well which will give you the ideal flight at the perfect price.
Use these tips the next time that you book flight and just look at how much money you will be able to save!
